TOWN OF KICKAPOO

BOARD MEETING MINUTES

June 1, 2005

Chairman Ken Anderson called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Burdette Nelson, Don Clements, Keith Larson, Doreen O’Donnell, George Butler, Joan Glass and Jim Holmberg were in attendance.

Proof of proper notice was shown.

Nelson motioned to approve the minutes of the May 16, 2005, board meeting. Clements seconded. All in favor; motion carried.

Anderson motioned to approve accounts payable of $7,640.96 plus payroll. Nelson seconded. All in favor; motion carried.

Letters from State Rep. Lee Nerison were read. The first letter stated an amendment to the bill which would require uniform polling hours in the state. If the amendment is approved, the township will be able to petition the State Elections Board for costs incurred because of longer polling hours. The second letter was in response to the Town Board’s concerns about spreading manure on frozen ground. Nerison’s response struck a balance between farmers’ concerns and those concerned about water quality. Clerk read info from county clerk Ron Hoff. “The Help America Vote Act of 2002 is requiring one handicap voting machine at every polling place…we have been told there should be enough Federal money in the program to pay for a majority of the cost of the machine.” In a recent conversation Doreen had with Ron Hoff, he said the machine could cost as much as $4,000, and set-up fees before each election could be as much as $400.

New Business: Clerk read from a copy of a DNR letter to James Walsh re: diverting water from the Kickapoo River for irrigation. A letter from the Public Service Commission states that Wisconsin Bell has filed to discontinue long distance service to areas serviced by Vernon Telephone Coop, Inc., but that other providers would be available.

The board plans to hire Stacy Getter to do the dozer work on Prestegard Rd. near Townsend’s, and from Buss’s to McCullick’s to prepare the road for sealcoating in 2006. The board turned down McCullick’s request for reimbursement for fencing. Moore Road will be sealcoated from School Rd. to the top of the next hill toward Highman’s.

Board of Review is June 7, 2005.

The next meeting date is set for June 15, 2005, at 7 p.m.

At 7:30 Clements motioned to adjourn. Anderson seconded. All in favor; motion carried.

Respectfully submitted by

Doreen O’Donnell, Clerk
